Movie poster courtesy of Screencrave.comI remember how excited I was growing up with the music and live performance of Michael Jackson as a child. When "Thriller" was released in 1982 I was just a hair over three years old. And even as someone who absolutely despises pop music and choreography, there was something special about watching Michael perform. In my eyes, he truly embodied what it meant to be a superstar. While he was unquestionably eccentric, he had a certain character and positive vibe that could not help but be admired.
"This Is It" managed to provide an experience and insight into the world of Michael Jackson unlike any I anticipated. As an entertainer myself (albeit on a much smaller scale), I could not help but smile watching this artistic legend work in his element.
I was completely inspired by the people Michael chose to surround himself with. In fact, seeing this behind the scenes perspective really was priceless. There was no doubt in my mind that if this tour would have launched it would have been THE concert experience of the year. Period. The band was absolutely phenomenal; managing to inject some modern flavor and energy into the classic songs he was performing.
If you are a creative soul, then this movie should be required viewing. It's not very often we are treated to the inside world of an artist or production on this level - much less afforded the opportunity to witness true talent in their element perfecting their craft. "This Is It" is definitely worth the price of admission. In fact, I can hardly wait for the DVD release - whenever that may be.
For those of you on the fence about seeing this film, I would definitely urge you to view it and see what kind of experience it may evoke from you. "This Is It" managed to provide the right balance of artistic insight, nostalgia, the magic of live performance, and a glimpse into how a larger than life superstar impacted the lives of others through his art. Hands down, it offers a much needed dose of inspiration for the modern world.
