Can the iPhone 3GS Record Live Drums Effectively?

Ever wonder how video recording on the iPhone 3GS performs for drummers? Here is a sample video I recorded of me tooling around behind the drums using only the iPhone 3GS. You can see that, despite being so close to the drums, the sound is amazing. It brings out the nuances of the hi-hats and cymbals nicely; but sometimes the drums themselves can be overpowering (a common challenge in any recording situation).

The verdict? The audio and video is definitely worth it. While the camera often gets most of the attention due to its higher quality and tap to focus abilities, do not overlook the built-in mic in this iPhone. I cannot wait to explore recording with a Four Track Studio app I purchased - one which was used to produce a full song. Check out more on that story here - "The 88 records entire song on their iPhone."
