Video of Fireworks Display from Rouses Point, NY
Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 11:20PM After a fun Fourth of July celebration in Plattsburgh last night, we had made plans to close out the weekend by going to tonight's (July 5th) fireworks display in Rouses Point, NY. I had wondered how the iPhone 3GS would perform in a low-light setting and was quite pleased with the end result. Hope you enjoy the footage!

Oh man. I wasn't complaining at ALL about my 2G iPhone, until I saw this. I think having video capabilities on my phone would be great for all the events I'm running to lately. Maybe someone will give me a 3GS one of these days. Ya never know! LOL.
Oh yeah, I would agree...The recording capabilities (and the awesome camera and mic) of the iPhone 3GS really are worth the upgrade. You're absolutely right in that the 2G iPhone - and really, any iPhone for that matter - is a great purchase. However...To have instant access to quality recording is quite nice. This is definitely an ideal tool for producing web content.
I should point out that it does remain to be seen how much footage I can reasonably obtain. I have a fairly light music and photo library, though, so I'll be curious to see where things begin to be pushed. I was impressed how easy it was to trim the video directly on the iPhone 3GS and then publish it to YouTube. All told, it took me about 5 minutes to do the one-button publishing from the iPhone 3GS over my home WiFi connection (plus a minute or two for me to type in the title, description, etc using the on-screen keyboard) for this 55 second clip. So it seems to me publishing time will wind up clocking in around 5 minutes for every 1 minute of video. Not too shabby.
